The annual Emsleys/Connect Housing Association 5 a Side Cup tournament was held on on Friday 13th July, at “Goals” in Leeds, supported by 11 teams drawn from the world of Social Housing in Yorkshire, with teams travelling from across the county.
This year the Emsleys team were augmented by close season signing, (for one night only) the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keir Starmer QC who put in a solid midfield performance, creating a last minute goal from nowhere – but sadly that was not enough to propel us into the final. I tell my team every year it would be wrong for the host team to win, and every year they absolutely take that on board.
Keir was gracious enough in his shared defeat to award the prizes to this year’s victors. The 2012 Champions were Sanctuary Housing, who beat Huddersfield’s Sadeh Lok in the final. Congratulations to Sanctuary’s efforts, and to Sadeh Lok for picking up the “Fair Play” and “Golden Boot” awards.
